Kitchen Essentials

So I am kind of cheap when it comes to a lot of things, but for some kitchen products, spending a little more is totally worth the money. Here are a few of my favorites:

Number one on my list is a set of good knives. Keeping a good set of knives sharp, is one of the most important tools in the kitchen. If you have never used a good knife before, you will be amazed at the ease with which you slice things. When I first moved out on my own, a good knife was the first thing on my Christmas list. I have three of these knives now (thanks mom) and I couldn’t be happier with them.

When it comes to storing food, Snapware is my absolute favorite. You can buy containers of different sizes with interchangeable lids and the bottoms come in both glass (by Pyrex) and plastic. I use plastic for lunch packing since it is lighter and glass for things I plan to reheat in the microwave.

This tall guy uses the same size lid as the short ones:
The glass ones have the same size lids too:

When we first got married, we had a pepper grinder that somehow melted when left too close to the stove even though it appeared to be made of metal. Since then, I have been using those cheap ones that you can buy in the spice aisle and throw away when they run out. But thanks to my awesome mother who did extensive research to buy us a pepper grinder as a gift, I now have one that I absolutely love. It has adjustable settings for a fine to coarse grind and it is SO MUCH FASTER that the disposable kind. I have already saved at least ten minutes in the kitchen.
